THE HEART
1. INTRODUCTION
The heart is composed of 10 main parts (a morphological and functional level):
- Four chambers (two atria or atria and two ventricles) that receive and distribute the bloodstream.
- Four valves communication between the cavities and other organs.
- Two partitions or septa that separate the heart into the right and left.
PARTS AND FUNTIONS THE HEART
Right Atrium: Receives oxygen-poor blood from the vena cava.
Left Atrium: Receives oxygen-rich blood from the four pulmonary veins.
Right ventricle: Receives oxygen-poor blood from the right atrium and sends it to the lungs through the pulmonary artery.
Left ventricle: Receives oxygen-rich blood from the left atrium and sends it to the body through the aorta.
Tricuspid valve: separates and connects the right atrium to the right ventricle.
Bicuspid valve (mitral valve) separates and connects the left atrium to the left ventricle
Pulmonary valve: separates and connects the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery.
Aortic valve separates and connects the left ventricle with the aorta.
Atrial septum: separates the two atria.
Interventricular septum: separates the two ventricles.
